Florissant residents demand answers after apartment complex tows cars

Barbara Hyster just returned from vacation and found out her daughter's car was gone. At first, they thought it was stolen but then realized it was towed.

FLORISSANT, Mo. —Residents at The Groves Townhouses and Apartments are demanding answers after several cars were towed from the property Thursday.

Barbara Hyster just returned from vacation and found out her daughter’s car was gone. At first, they thought it was stolen but then realized it was towed.

Property Management said 11 cars were towed. Florissant police tell 5 On Your Side that multiple cars in the lot didn't’t have license plates, had expired registration or weren’t registered all together. Police notified the Groves that multiple vehicles were subject to ordinance violations. Property management said police told them to remove the vehicles or face going to court.

Hyster’s daughter did not have registration but she said managers should have warned them first before removing them. “You put a note on their door to evict them. Why don’t you put a note on their car?” said Hyster.

Two weeks ago, Jasmine Johnson said she was ticketed for not having a license plate on her car. Her vehicle was spared but she’s worried she’s next.

“It doesn’t make sense to me. Now that the apartment had the cars towed, people can’t get to work, and then how are they supposed to pay their rent?” said Johnson.

Hyster said it’s going to cost their family $410 to get their car from the lot which is all the way in Pacific. She said for every day it sits there, they get charged another $30.
