Heat wave settles in for the week

Oppressive heat and humidity take hold once again across the bi-state.

ST. LOUIS — After a beautiful weekend, a long stretch of hot weather is headed our way again this week.

A few areas may see a spot shower or storm with additional clouds to keep things slightly "cooler" today, but temperatures climb back into the mid-90s for the rest of the week. Wednesday will be closest day to average, which is 89°.

Upper level high pressure slides in as the jet stream stays locked in to our north, keeping the furnace going around the Midwest.

We stay dry and mainly sunny Tuesday through Friday, with heat index values climbing to 100° or above through the weekend.

Chances of rain will be minimal but do increase late Saturday into Sunday and possibly into next week.

Looking ahead, the following week temperatures are expected to return closer to normal heading into the latter half of July.

Remember to stay hydrated and take breaks if you feel yourself starting to get weak after spending time in the heat. Make sure pets have a shaded space and plenty of cold water.
