BELLEVILLE, IL - Illinois State Police are investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting in Belleville, Illinois.

Belleville Police said they were called to the West Pheasantwood Apartments off of Route 161 near Royal Heights Road around 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

When officers approached the scene, they say 35-year-old Angelo Brown had a gun in his hand started running. When officers caught up to him, there was a confrontation and officers shot and killed him, according to Sgt. Mark Heffernan with the Belleville Police Department.

The police department says there were three officers on the scene at the time of the shooting. Two officers fired shots, and all three have been placed on leave, which is standard protocol. The officers involved have eight months, one year and eight months, and 15 years of service.

No officers were injured in the shooting.

Illinois State Police have taken control of the investigation, which is ongoing.
