'It kinda ruined the whole night' | Cardinals fan's car damaged by rebar in lot

He wants his ordeal to serve as a warning to other fans.

ST. LOUIS — A $25 parking spot on Cardinals game day turned into a $1,200 bill for repairs after one fan said rebar in the lot punctured his car.

Kyle Kierstead heard a crunch when he pulled into the spot at the lot on 611 8th St. across from Busch Stadium.

Rebar sticking up from the wheel stop impaled the bottom of his car.

“It kinda ruined the whole night,” he said.

And it only got worse when he heard the repair estimate.

"It's just over $1,200 bucks to fix because they have to replace the whole bumper,” he said.

So Kyle filed a claim with the company that owns the lot, SP+.

"I didn't really want to pay anything for this. It wasn't my fault,” he said.

But SP+ denied his claim Thursday, saying it wasn't their fault, either.

Their response says SP+ “fulfilled its obligation of taking reasonable measures to provide a safe and secure parking facility.”

Kyle didn't see it that way.

"This is the standard height with the standard car, so there should not be an extra inch and a half sticking out that could damage your vehicle,” he said.

As soon as 5 On Your Side started asking questions to people at SP+ corporate offices in Chicago, Kyle got a phone call, saying the company will now cover the cost of his repairs and even pay for a rental car while his car is in the shop.

He wants his ordeal to serve as a warning to other fans.

"It'd be nice if no one else has to go through it,” he said.

There’s no word yet on whether SP+ will repair the rebar.
