KIRKWOOD, Mo. – A group of residents in Kirkwood is outraged over a potential change in property zoning that they say will ruin their peaceful community.

Next to the Difanis' home in Sugar Creek Valley is a home that's been vacant for more than 10 years. The house sits on two acres of land.

Jason Difani said the homeowner wants the city to rezone the property and allow them to sell it as two separate lots.

“It’s very much an eyesore. It’s become a nuisance to the neighborhood," said Difani.

He and other neighbors have started a campaign to stop the city from allowing the property to be rezoned. They’ve put up signs and have a petition with more than 600 signatures. Their kids have even put together a video voicing their concerns.

“The safety issues that have been brought up," Parin Marchionne said. "There’s also a lot of traffic already coming into our neighborhood.”

Angie Stevens, who has lived in this neighborhood for 18 years, agrees with the safety concern.

“We also have a bus stop that’s right up at the top of the hill so we have multiple children up on this property every Monday through Friday," she said.

Calls to the city of Kirkwood for comment were not returned.

A zoning committee hearing will be held on May 2nd.
