Loop Trolley hits first bump of 2019

The Loop Trolley was stalled for nearly 30 minutes because an SUV parked over the line.

ST. LOUIS — The Loop Trolley hit a few more bumps on the first ride of 2019.

Riders waited about half an hour until a driver moved their SUV which was parked just enough in the way that it delayed the trolley.

“We wondered what was happening, so we just decided to walk down here to check out what was happening,” two riders who were looking to catch a lift said.

This was the first time being on the trolley for several riders.

“This guy right here is blocking us,” Karen Johnston said. “If we go through there were going to go through there and knock off his car.”

A red SUV was parked just enough in the way to put the trolley in park. Johnston has little sympathy for the driver who held up her trolley experience.

“if it gets towed, it's his own fault,” Johnston said.

Although it's her first ride, the route is very familiar.

“I remember when there were streetcars through here,” Johnston said. “My dad was a streetcar driver before becoming a bus driver. Cars would come back and forth through here all the time.”

After about 30 minutes, the driver moved her vehicle. Johnston wants drivers to pay more attention where they park.

“People just have to be a little more mindful. When they are pulling in down here because this is working now.”

Vehicles parked in the path of the trolley could be towed.
