Man arrested for abandoning 8 puppies

Poplar Bluff animal control officers responded to the intersection of Harper and Sanders Street where they found the Pitbull mix puppies. The puppies appeared to be malnourished and not of age to be weaned from their mother.

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. – A man was arrested Wednesday morning after he admitted to abandoning eight puppies.

Poplar Bluff animal control officers responded to the intersection of Harper and Sanders Street where they found the Pitbull mix puppies. The puppies appeared to be malnourished and not of age to be weaned from their mother.

Officers responded to the 1000 block of North 2nd Street where they arrested Daryl Scarlet. Scarlet was found to possess the mother of the puppies, along with one puppy from the same litter. He originally denied abandoning the puppies, but then admitted to it after being held at the Butler County Justice Center. The mother of the puppies and the other puppy were seized, and Scarlet signed a release of ownership form to release the rights to the animals to the Poplar Bluff Animal Shelter.

Poplar Bluff Animal Control shared images of the puppies to their Facebook page after they were discovered and they believe it helped lead to the arrest of Scarlet.
