ST. LOUIS – St. Louis police arrested a 34-year-old man who was driving an ATV in south St. Louis Monday.

Police said he was driving near Kossuth and Turner. The ATV was towed from the scene. They also said four other ATVs were taken and towed from the 4100 block of Margaretta.

Last week, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said it would crack down on illegal ATV activity in the City of St. Louis. Police said they’ve received reports of large groups of ATV riders causing disturbances throughout the city. Police said this is the first arrest they've made since the announcement.

'Effective immediately, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department will be enforcing a State Statute that prohibits the operation of ATVs on City streets.

A violation would be considered a Class C misdemeanor and drivers of ATVs on City streets will be subject to arrest and the towing of the ATV.'

The full statute can be found here

Back in February, a Jefferson County man was shot during a run-in with dirt bikers and ATV riders in the Bevo neighborhood.
