Man charged after attacking food pantry workers

They said he was well known to police for several years, but hadn't done anything violent recently.

BELLEVILLE, Ill. — A man has been charged after police said he attacked two food bank employees trying to remove him from the property Thursday morning.

Cortez Wilson, 41, was charged with four counts of aggravated battery. Two of the counts are class 2 felonies and the other two counts are class 3 felonies. His bond was set at $75,000.00.

Police said Wilson was banned from the Community Interfaith Food Pantry on Wednesday, but returned to the property Thursday morning looking for food. Police said two employees were escorting him off the property when he attacked them.

When police arrived, they took Wilson into custody. They said he was well known to police for several years, but hadn't done anything violent recently.

Police said both of the employees attacked by the man were over the age of 60. One of them had a noticeable eye injury.
