MACOUPIN COUNTY, Ill. — An Illinois man was killed by a train after his foot got stuck on the gas pedal and caused his car to roll onto train tracks Thursday night.

According to the Macoupin County Coroner, Ronald E. Vallery, 67, was driving near Plainview Blacktop Road when his foot got stuck on his gas pedal, which caused his vehicle to roll over and onto the train tracks.

A freight train heading north hit Vallery’s vehicle. Witnesses tried to pull him from his vehicle, but they couldn’t free him and ran away just in time to save their own lives.
