A 63-year-old man was shot and killed by a SWAT officer serving a search warrant Tuesday night

Police Chief Sam Dotson said special operations and SWAT officers were serving three search warrants on the 4000 block of California Avenue Tuesday night. Dotson said the first two went without issue, but police said Don Clark, 63, fired shots at the officers while they were serving the third.

Dotson said the officers used a battering ram to open the door. When the door swung open, Clark fired a shot at officers. The officers then threw a diversionary device into the home, and Clark fired another shot. At that time, a SWAT officer shot Clark. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the warrants were related to a six-month investigation into guns and drugs including heroin and marijuana. Seven people were arrested in connection with the warrants.
