Landlord shoots man over eviction in Wentzville

Police said they took two persons of interest into custody.
Carl J. Townsend was charged with first-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm. His bond was set at $250,000.

ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. — A man was charged Tuesday, a day after police said he shot a man during an argument over a pending eviction in St. Charles County.

Police said Carl J. Townsend, 40, was arguing with one of his tenants over a pending eviction at a home on the 2600 block of Juanest Lane at around 9:30.

During the argument, a man helping the tenant move out joined the argument. Police said Townsend then shot at the man several times, hitting him at least once in the arm. The 38-year-old man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Townsend was charged with first-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm. His bond was set at $250,000.
