Buckle up, Missouri. Drivers in the Show-Me State are some of the worst in the nation, at least according to data compiled by SmartAsset.

Missouri drivers ranked 3rd worst in America—tying with California—the financial technology website found.

SmartAsset used four factors when ranking states:

  • The percent of drivers with insurance
  • Number of DUIs per driver
  • Average number of deaths per miles driven
  • How often residents Google terms like “traffic ticket” and “speeding ticket”

Many Missouri drivers skip insurance, meaning wrecks can be costly when they happen, the website said. The data also showed 1.28 people die for every 100 million vehicle miles traveled in Missouri.
