Mom shot to death in front of 1-year-old in Wells-Goodfellow neighborhood

A man was also shot to death.

ST. LOUIS – An investigation is underway after two people were found shot to death and a one-year-old boy was found at the scene uninjured in north St. Louis Monday afternoon.

Police responded to the 5900 block of Highland Avenue around 4:20 p.m. A man and a woman were found shot to death outside a car, according to St. Louis Police.

The man has been identified as 27-year-old Jonathan Young of St. Charles and the woman has been identified as 25-year-old Desha Davis. Police said Davis is the mother of the one-year-old who was found at the scene.

Someone near the scene of the shooting saw the one-year-old and carried the child to safety, police said.

"Oh my God, I can't tell you how many gunshots I heard. It was terrible,” Tonya Finley-McCaw said.

She’s an activist who lives in the neighborhood.

“We have a lot of killing going on in our neighborhood right now,” she said.

As Finley-McCaw watched investigators try to figure out who was responsible for the violence, she wore a shirt with the word “love” on it. She said that’s her motto.

"We gotta learn how to hug on one another, be there for one another, because it's totally lost in our community,” she said.
