30 years after Scotty Kleeschulte disappeared, his mother still hoping for a miracle

"You never know there could be a miracle out there."

ST. CHARLES, Mo. — "It's unreal how you think it just happened," said Peggy Kleeschulte as she allows herself to think back to the last time she saw her son Scotty.

June 8, 1988. Storm damage kept Peggy at work late by just an hour or two.

"I kind of always blamed myself for not being home right from work," she said.

When Peggy got home, her 9-year-old son was missing.

Investigators and volunteers searched for days. Some thought maybe Scotty had drowned in a flash flood. Authorities believe he was abducted.

That morning before school was the last time Peggy saw her son, 30 years ago this Friday.

"He was my most loving one at that age. He would come and sit with me," remembers Peggy who had to put away pictures of her son because they were too difficult to see.

"My worst time is when I'm by myself or driving I'll catch myself thinking about things and what I could have (done)," she said.

Three decades later her husband has passed away and she has eight grandchildren from her four other kids. But she hasn't given up hope that her son's mystery could still be solved.

"Just say a bunch of prayers that one day we'll really find out what really happened to him.
And we can all put it to rest and give him some rest, too,” she said. "You never know there could be a miracle out there."
