ST. LOUIS — Families are demanding changes in their historic neighborhood after one person was killed and five others were injured in a drive-by shooting last Tuesday. A father was killed and the murderer is still on the loose.

In the early 1900's, The Ville became one of the few areas of St. Louis where African-Americans could own property, and by the 1920's and 30's it was thriving with families.

Neighbors who live in The Ville now say they're afraid of the deadly crime that plagues their historic neighborhood. They want major changes in the neighborhood to improve safety.

They say the changes should include clearing the overgrown brush and trees at intersections, demolishing or revitalizing vacant homes and installing a network of surveillance camera throughout the neighborhood.

In the meantime, you're encouraged to call police if you know anything about the drive-by shooting that took place near West Cote Brilliante and Billups Avenue. You can also leave an anonymous tip with Crimestoppers at 866-371-8477.
