Not all heroes at Jefferson Barracks will receive a holiday wreath, here’s how you can help

Monday is the final day to donate for the Wreaths Across America effort.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — Thousands of wreaths will be placed on the graves at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery this holiday season. But unlike Arlington National Cemetery, not every hero will receive a wreath.

Wreaths Across America and St. Louis organization Gateway Blue Star Mothers are hoping to change that.

The organization is raising money to place as many wreaths as possible at the final resting place of our bravest men and women. Monday, Dec. 3 is the final day to donate.

There are 170,000 heroes at Jefferson Barracks.

So far, about 7,000 wreaths have been sponsored.

“The motto is remember, honor and teach. We want to remember all of our veterans who have gone before us. We want to honor every one of them and teach our children going forward what these wonderful people did to keep us free in this country,” said Kathy Schulte, of Gateway Blue Star Mothers.

It costs $15 to sponsor a wreath.

The wreaths will be placed on the graves at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15. Anyone and everyone is invited to help.

Donations received after Monday will go toward the 2019 Wreaths Across America fundraiser for Jefferson Barracks.

Last year, about 4,400 wreaths were sponsored. The national Wreaths Across America organization was able to donate an additional 9,600 wreaths for Jefferson Barracks.
