O'Fallon, Mo. man charged in death of 4-month-old baby

The prosecutor's office told 5 On Your Side that Coleman was in a relationship with the child's mother at the time of the incident.

ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. – An O’Fallon, Missouri man has been charged in the death of a 4-month-old baby.

Officials charged Devon Michael Coleman, 31, with abuse and neglect of a child resulting in death.

In December of 2017, the 5-month-old was found unresponsive and not breathing at Coleman’s home.

The child was taken to an area hospital and later died.

The medical examiner reported that the child’s death was a homicide as a result of asphyxiation by strangling or smothering.

The child also had injuries around the head, neck, face and eyes.

The prosecutor's office told 5 On Your Side that Coleman was in a relationship with the child's mother at the time of the incident.

Coleman is being held on the $75,000 cash-only bond.
