Porch cam captures teen pulling gun on Soulard homeowner

"It's scary. For something like this to happen anywhere at 6:30 in the morning... makes everybody start second guessing what they're doing each morning," the homeowner said.

ST. LOUIS — Police said video from a home security camera shows a teenager chasing a homeowner inside his home as he was headed to work early Thursday morning in the Soulard neighborhood.

The homeowner does not want to be identified because the suspects are still on the loose. Police said at least one other teen was also involved.

"It's scary. For something like this to happen anywhere at 6:30 in the morning... makes everybody start second guessing what they're doing each morning," the homeowner said.

The video appears to show the suspect charge the homeowner after he set off his car alarm in an attempt to scare the suspects away as they doubled parked in the street next to his car.

The homeowner was able to get inside his home and call 911. The suspects drove off in a blue sedan.

No one was injured but this type of brazen, broad daylight crime comes after a spring and summer of other crimes that have grabbed people's attention in the Soulard area.

Perhaps the most shocking was the still unsolved murder of a longtime bartender at the Bastille Bar just a few blocks away.

Crime statistics from the city show year-to-year crime in the neighborhood is down by about two percent. But Soulard may have lost some positive momentum. In May, the same stats showed a 20 percent drop.

The homeowner in this latest incident said overall, he still feels safe and committed to the neighborhood he's called home for the past four years.

"That this continues to happen in the neighborhood is a problem," he said. "But, we get a lot of support from the local police, so we are encouraged by that."

Police are hoping someone will recognize the teens in the homeowner’s video and contact them with information.
