School security officer arrested after he tased a 14-year-old student

The student was treated and released from a hospital.

NORMANDY, Mo. – An investigation is underway after a teen was tased by a school security officer on Friday.

Normandy police arrested a Normandy Schools Collaborative security officer after he tased a 14-year-old student on April 20.

According to police, the student was getting ready to leave school and was confronted by the security officer in the main foyer of the building. The two got into a verbal disagreement and the school resource officer responded to intervene. The security officer continued to engage the student, subsequently tasing him. The school resource officer secured the student and recovered an electronic control device from the district employee.

The student was treated and released from a hospital.

“The district is cooperating with the police in the investigation. This is a personnel matter and the security officer is on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation,” A district spokesperson said.

The incident has been referred to the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office seeking assault charges against the 63-year-old suspect.
