ST. LOUIS BUSINESS JOURNAL — Small-business wage growth in St. Louis saw a small uptick over the past 12 months, according to the Paychex-IHS Markit small business employment watch, a report that analyzes national employment and wage trends.

Local weekly earnings were $828.11 in September, up 2.59 percent from the same month in 2017.

Among all metro areas analyzed, Phoenix came in at the top with weekly earnings of $874.07, a 4.92 percent growth over 2017.

The monthly report analyzed wage growth in the top 20 metropolitan areas in the U.S., looking only at companies that employ fewer than 50 people.

The western part of the country led the way overall, with nearly a full percentage point greater wage growth than the rest of the nation. Weekly earnings in the western U.S. were up 2.38 percent since last year, according to the report.
