ST. LOUIS – The recent Parkland, Florida shooting and National Walkout Day are reminders of the everyday violence and trauma thousands of children experience.
Whether in school shootings, or close to home, seeing violence and being exposed to chronic stress can lead to physical and mental health problems.
The result can be childhood trauma, and many experts think it's getting out of control.
We wanted to know more about how to spot the signs someone may be struggling with trauma and chronically unsoothed stress.
Rachel Neukirch, chief program officer at FamilyForward, and a licensed clinical social worker, joined us to talk about the problem.
