South St. Louis County woman warns of possible dog-snatchers

ST. LOUIS – A south St. Louis County woman is warning her neighbors about possible dog-snatchers.

She said Thursday night, she spotted three men lurking near her fence and her 1-year-old German Shepherd in the New England Town neighborhood in Oakville.

"The way they were running out and trying to leave very quickly, they were up to no good,” Joyce Brendel said.

Police responded, but the prowlers were gone before they arrived. Officers told 5 On Your Side they have not received any similar reports in the area.

Brendel said her dog, Ivy, won’t be in the backyard alone any more, and she wants others to be aware.

"Keep an eye on their dogs. I'm sure they all feel safe letting their dogs out but it only takes one bad apple to ruin it,” she said.
