St. Louis man rear-ended by state trooper after hitting cow on I-64 in Illinois

The trooper was going after a speeding car when he rear-ended a Honda Civic, that had just hit a cow that was standing on the highway.

CASEYVILLE, Ill. – An Illinois State Police trooper and a St. Louis man were injured in an accident on Interstate 64 near the Caseyville exit Saturday afternoon.

Around 12:30 p.m., a trooper was traveling westbound on Interstate 64 going after a speeding car. As he was picking up speed, the trooper rear-ended a Honda Civic that had just hit a cow that was standing on the highway.

Officials said the westbound lanes were closed for 45 minutes following the accident.

The driver of the Honda, a 76-year-old man, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a St. Louis hospital. The 41-year-old trooper suffered minor injuries in the accident and was taken to an area hospital.

The cow ran away from the scene.
