Good Afternoon Hazelwood West High Parents and Guardians,

This is Mr. Newell, principal at West High School. Let me begin by saying, all students are safe.

However, I want to make you are aware of an incident that occurred this morning in our school. Suspicious activity prompted a teacher to notify our SRO and school administrators. An investigation discovered that a student had a gun. The student was immediately taken into police custody. The student will be disciplined according to the Hazelwood Student Handbook and Behavior Guide. I want to thank our quick acting SROs, administrators, and teacher for immediately resolving the matter.

The safety of our students and staff remains a high priority. Parents I’d like to take this opportunity once again to solicit your help in reminding your child not to bring weapons or toys that resemble weapons to school or on the school bus at any time. This message can also be found on our website and social media channels. Thank you
