This program keeps kids engaged during the summer

"Once you get with the wrong crowd, it's almost impossible to get out."

ST. LOUIS — Keeping your kids busy during the summer can be a challenge, especially if you work.

One organization wants to help those families. The Marquette Recreation Center, on Minnesota Avenue, in St. Louis is offering a free program to anyone aged 13 to 22 years old.

They'll be able to play games, cook, swim and even get help with their studies.

This is in partnership with the Thomas Dunn Learning Center which has helped dozens of young kids grow up to be successful, some even going to college.

The Commissioner of Recreation for the city of St. Louis, Evelyn Rice, said this is a great program to ensure kids stay engaged.

"What we don't want is for our young people to make bad choices and get themselves in tough situations that they can't get out of. Sometimes those bad choices can be life changing. Once you get with the wrong crowd, it's almost impossible to get out,” said Rice.

The Drop-In Center will be open Tuesday through Thursday from 3-6 p.m. Wednesday afternoon they'll hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to kick it off. It will be held at 2 p.m. at the Marquette Recreation Center. The event is open to the public.
