Today marks "Alive Day" for injured officer Mike Flamion

What could be considered a sad day, the officer, his family and his colleagues are instead taking a different approach.
Officer Mike Flamion is making strides in his recovery.

BALLWIN, Mo. — Two years ago, Officer Mike Flamion's life changed forever. The Ballwin officer was shot in the back walking back to his patrol car. That paralyzed him from the neck down.

But instead of dreading this day, Flamion and the department call this anniversary his "alive day."

Ballwin Police posted a touching tribute on Instagram earlier this morning. They're thankful Flamion is still with us, and obviously, the same can be said for Flamion and his wife Sarah.

Rather than be sad about the day that he got shot, we think it's important to celebrate his life. We call it his alive day," Sarah said. "God saved him. And that's a reason to celebrate.

Since that fateful day, Flamion has moved into a new smart home, built just for him. He and his wife are also part of "Project Hurt," a network of officers hurt in the line of duty and their families, that comes together to heal the wounds that can't always be seen.
