White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders briefs reporters Friday following President Trump's pardoning of former George W. Bush administration aide Scooter Libby and the president's tweet storm over former FBI director James Comey.

Scooter Libby was convicted of lying to the FBI in an investigation into a leak of the identity of covert CIA agent Valerie Plame.

"I don’t know Mr. Libby,” Trump said in a statement released by the White House press secretary. “But for years I have heard that he has been treated unfairly. Hopefully, this full pardon will help rectify a very sad portion of his life.”

The president had stronger words for James Comey, calling him "a proven LEAKER & LIAR"  and an "untruthful slime ball" as details began to leak ahead of the former FBI director's upcoming book release.

"Virtually everyone in Washington thought he should be fired for the terrible job he did-until he was, in fact, fired," Trump said of Comey in a pair of critical and personal tweets.
