Misty Copeland's Barbie doll is here, with great calves

Meet Misty Copeland, and miniature Misty Copeland.

Meet Misty Copeland, and miniature Misty Copeland.

You probably know the original Misty Copeland: a ballerina who made history last year when she became the first African American woman to be named a principal dancer for the famed American Ballet Theatre. Copeland is also a Broadway star, music video queen (she was a muse for Prince), documentary film subject and role model (who recently chatted about representation with President Obama).

Now we have a Misty Barbie, inspired by the dancer. The doll wears Copeland's famous Firebird costume, which Copeland wore four years ago for her breakout dance role. This month, Copeland's going to be in the Firebird role again, like the doll.

But it's not just the Barbie's outfit and skin tone that resemble Copeland, who had a hand in designing the doll.

"She has muscles and calves and thigh and a bust," Copeland said on Good Morning America. "That was important to me."

OK, just take our $29.95, Mattel.

The Misty Copeland Barbie is available to order now. Like the single Zendaya doll and limited-edition Ava DuVernay doll, it's part of the "Sheroes" line of Barbies.
