WASHINGTON — Kentucky GOP Sen. Rand Paul will be back at work in Washington as soon as next week, after a neighbor assaulted him and left him with five broken ribs over the weekend.

“He’s on the mend, and we expect him back next week,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, also a Kentucky Republican, told reporters on Tuesday.

McConnell said he has spoken with Paul since the assault.

“He was literally slammed into by a neighbor,” McConnell said. “And he has five either broken or cracked ribs. And he said it really hurt.”
