Star Trek: Discovery will explore more new worlds: The CBS All Access streaming service Monday said it will pick up the latest version of the storied sci-fi franchise for a second season.
"In just six episodes, Star Trek: Discovery has driven subscriber growth, critical acclaim and huge global fan interest for the first premium version of this great franchise," says CBS Interactive chief Marc DeBevoise, in a statement.
Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones, Jason Isaacs and Michelle Yeoh are among the stars of the sixth live-action Trek series, which has earned generally positive reviews.
Discovery, which aired its premiere episode on CBS and drew close to 10 million same-day viewers, is available only on All Access, which charges $5.99 or more per month, and are released each Sunday at 8:30 ET/5:30 PT. Its first "chapter" of nine episodes ends Nov. 12; after a holiday break, the series will return in January for six more to close out the first season. CBS would not reveal the timing or episode count of the show's second season.
