ST. LOUIS - Trooper the dog has been through a lot, but now he's on his way to a normal life in a loving new home.

Trooper was found shot and beaten in a St. Francois County ditch back in February. He defied the odds and managed to survive his gruesome injuries.

After undergoing intensive therapy and rallying an entire community to his side, Trooper is finally in the hands of a loving family and on his way to a normal life.

The man who is accused of beating Trooper, Jason Hampton, is currently facing animal abuse charges.

Hampton's jury trial begins March 12 in St. Francois County.

Missouri K9 Friends will be holding a fundraiser for Trooper January 15. More info on the fundraiser here.
