Today in St. Louis co-anchor Rene Knott leaves for South Korea Friday morning to cover the 2018 Olympic Winter Games for 5 On Your Side. He is part of an elite group of TEGNA reporters attending the Games, and the only local reporter on-the-ground covering the Olympics for St. Louis.
Each morning, Rene will bring viewers live reports from PyeongChang with an inside look at everything going on behind-the-scenes, including interviews with some of the world’s top athletes. His live reports begin Monday, Feb. 5 on Today in St. Louis. He’ll also use his Facebook fan page to give followers even more of the content they crave.
“I’ve never covered the Winter Olympics, so I’m excited for the opportunity to cover sports I’ve never before seen in person,” said Rene. “It’s a rare opportunity to be around the best of the best, and bringing those stories back to St. Louis is a tremendous opportunity.”
Arriving five days ahead of the Opening Ceremony, Rene will have a little time to get acquainted with his temporary home. He will watch the Super Bowl with U.S. troops at a local military base, and the next day will take part in an outing with other journalists to visit the de-militarized zone on the border with North Korea.

This is Rene’s third time covering the Olympics for 5 On Your Side – first in Athens in 2004, and then again in London in 2012. He has also been selected to carry the Olympic torch three times – twice when it came through the St. Louis area and once when he worked at a station in Washington, D.C.
