BOSTON — The mother of Michael Brown, the 18-year-old who was shot and killed by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson in 2014, said she may run for public office.

Lezley McSpadden made the announcement while speaking at Harvard University on Monday, for a panel titled "The Movement for Black Lives: Justice for Michael Brown 4 Years Later."

"What I'm contemplating is running for City Council," said McSpadden. "We're seeing new people be elected, but will it change what happened then? No. But, we can change the course of what may happen tomorrow and what we see happening now."

She was joined by the Brown family attorney and by Jason Pollock, a filmmaker who created the documentary "Stranger Fruit" which details the death of Brown in 2014, the Associated Press reported.
