JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — A bill has been introduced to the Missouri House of Representatives which would mark the way for articles of impeachment against Gov. Eric Greitens.
The resolution, filed on Tuesday by Kansas City-based Minority Leader Gail Beatty, would authorize the Special Investigative Committee on Oversight to introduce the articles of impeachment, citing the discovery "of good cause."
The latest pushback against the Missouri governor came the same day as Attorney General Josh Hawley announced a potential felony violation against Greitens for using an electronic donor list for political fundraising. The evidence, which was handed over to the St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office, was tied to his charity, The Mission Continues.
In response, Republican lawmakers again called for Greitens resignation. However, Greitens released a statement thereafter saying in part, "I will not be resigning the Governor's office. In three weeks, this matter will go to a court of law — where it belongs and where the facts prove my innocence. Until then, I will do what the people of Missouri sent me here to do: to serve them and work hard on their behalf."
Greitens' trial is set for Monday, May 14.
