Suspicious death investigation underway after 11-year-old girl found shot to death

Police responded to the 1500 block of N. 20th around 11:40 p.m. Monday where Charnija Keys was found shot in the head.

ST. LOUIS – A suspicious death investigation is underway after an 11-year-old girl was shot to death in St. Louis’ Carr Square neighborhood late Monday night.

Police responded to the 1500 block of N. 20th around 11:40 p.m. where Charnija Keys was found shot in the head. She was transported to a hospital where she died.

St. Louis police said the child abuse unit and homicide detectives responded to the scene.

No other details have been made available.

On Sunday night, a 3-year-old girl was shot and killed in a drive-by in St. Louis' Mount Pleasant neighborhood. A 6-year-old was also injured in the shooting.

Mayor Krewson tweeted her concerns about the violence early Tuesday morning.
