1 dead, 3 injured in crash on Interstate 64 near Town and Country

Police believe one car tried to switch lanes in front of the tractor-trailer, which likely caused the crash.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY – One person was killed and three others were injured in a multi-vehicle accident near Town and Country Tuesday morning.

The crash occurred around 8:25 a.m. on Interstate 64 at Interstate 270 near Mason Road.

A tractor-trailer and six vehicles were involved. One of the cars and the tractor-trailer caught fire. The eastbound lanes of Interstate 64 were shut down for several hours.

A shell-shocked driver described the moment he became involved in the massive pile-up.

“I was going to exit 270 north so I was in that lane and then I heard breaking sound,” Vikas said.

Vikas was one of six drivers involved in the crash. Troopers said one car tried to cut off the tractor-trailer, causing a chain reaction crash.

“My car flung off to the left side and a couple of other cars hit me,” Vikas said. “It took me a minute to figure out what happened and then came out of my car and saw it was much worse for some others.”

Three people were transported to hospitals and released with minor injuries. The man killed was identified Tuesday as 35-year-old Ryan C. Stoll of Ballwin, Missouri.
