No (broken) bones about it: LR basketball coach won Purdue game with embarrassing injury

At this point in the season in any sport, teams must deal with injuries. As athletic as basketball players are, bodies aren't invincible. Sometimes the "next man" must step up and fill in to help his team win.

DENVER -- At this point in the season in any sport, teams must deal with injuries. As athletic as basketball players are, their bodies aren't invincible. Sometimes the "next man" must step up and fill in to help his team win.

However, what do you do when the injured person is your head coach?

In case you missed the story from USA TODAY on Wednesday, Little Rock's head coach, Chris Beard, coached his team to an upset double-overtime victory over Purdue on Thursday with a broken hand.

USA TODAY quotes Beard as having made a "bad decision" in the locker room during halftime of the Sun Belt Championship game in New Orleans last week. Beard admitted to punching a dry erase board in frustration during halftime of the game.

It looks like it didn't bother the coach, a Bobby Knight assistant at Texas Tech, who was able to keep his emotions in-check enough to deliver the knockout blow to Purdue.

Coach Beard and the Trojans will look to deliver another shocker against Iowa State in the Round of 32 on Saturday. Should he have any reason to be upset during the game, hopefully he doesn't repeat his mistake on the dry erase board.

And if he learned anything from his time under Bobby Knight, he should avoid all chairs as well.
