CAHOKIA HEIGHTS, Ill — One person died and another was injured in a crash early Wednesday morning on Interstate 255 before Illinois 15 in St. Clair County.
The crash happened at about 3:15 a.m. Wednesday on southbound I-255 in Cahokia Heights. Illinois State Police confirmed that one person was killed and another suffered non-life-threatening injuries when their vehicle left the roadway and landed in the nearby woods.
Two right lanes and the right shoulder of southbound I-255 were closed as ISP worked to investigate and remove the vehicle from the woods.
The Illinois Department of Transportation estimated lanes would reopen at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
