ST. LOUIS — Excessive heat continues in the bi-state through the start of the weekend.
Three days of upper 90s are forecast for the region with no rain in the forecast. Dangerously hot heat index temperatures are expected Thursday afternoon and each afternoon through Saturday.
Heat index temperatures will range from 104 to 110 degrees Thursday and Friday afternoon. Humidity will keep the heat index in the 100 to 106-degree range on Saturday.
Heatwaves like this can quickly cause heat stress or heat stroke if precautions are not taken. The very young, the elderly, those without air conditioning and those participating in strenuous outdoor activities will be the most susceptible.
Drinking plenty of water, staying out of the sun and spending time in air conditioning are important during this time. Check on your neighbors and remember your pets need relief from the heat as well.
A cold front will move in to the region on Sunday, bringing down temperatures to the lower and middle 90s. A few thunderstorms are possible Sunday into early Monday, followed by an end to our heat wave.
