Howling winds signal a change Wednesday afternoon

A cold front is sweeping across the region with strong winds and falling temperatures.

ST. LOUIS -- The 5 On Your Side weather team is tracking an area of strong winds behind a cold front today. Once the front passes, winds will turn to the west and may gust up to 50 m.p.h. As the winds increase, colder temperatures will be moving into the region and by this evening, we will once again be in the 40s.

A wind advisory has been issued for much of the area, including metro St. Louis, until 7 p.m. this evening. Strong winds from the west will make traveling in high profile vehicles challenging, especially on north south roads. Outdoor lawn furniture, trash cans and other loose outdoor items may be lifted and moved by these strong winds.

Scattered power outages are possible as a few tree limbs may be downed by the strong winds.

The wind will diminish as we head into the evening.
