NEW ORLEANS — There is no big activity in the Atlantic basin at the moment, and it should stay that way for the next several days. The lull in activity could continue into early October.
Hurricane season is not over yet, though. Things could eventually get a bit more active during the month of October.
Sometimes, cold fronts that settle south of us over the Gulf can foster tropical development in October. Also, a pattern called the Madden-Julian Oscillation may enter a more favorable phase for tropical formation.
We'll watch everything closely in the next few weeks. It's still two months until the official end of the Atlantic hurricane season on November 30.
