It's Opening Day, and we're expecting snow Friday!

Yet another weather system is set to bring late season winter weather to the St. Louis area by Friday night.

ST. LOUIS - While the weather is nearly perfect for baseball in St. Louis Thursday, it's a good thing the Cardinals have an off day Friday!

Another weather system will slide across Missouri and Illinois Friday into Friday night bringing more cold air to the region and the chances of rain that changes to a wintry mix or snow. Some accumulation is expected across the 5 On Your Side area including metro St. Louis while some areas may see little if any rain or snow at all.

Ground temperatures have warmed a bit so some of the snow that does fall will melt. At times though, the snow and possibly a wintry mix of sleet and snow may be falling faster than it can melt. This could result in some areas seeing around or possibly more than an inch of snow and sleet. The snow and sleet has a better chance of accumulating once the sun sets Friday evening. Roads will be wet and slick. During the more intense areas of snow and sleet, roads would likely become slushy. The most likely areas to see this heavier band of snow appear to be to the south and southwest of St. Louis.

As colder air surges in behind the system early Saturday morning, temperatures will again fall into the 20s. Untreated surfaces may glaze over, especially bridges. Saturday will be partly cloudy to mostly sunny and cold with high temperatures struggling to get to 40° in some areas during the afternoon.

Another fast moving system will bring us a chance of rain or snow on Sunday. Accumulation on Sunday will be less likely since any snow will be falling during the daylight hours. Stay weather aware heading into this weekend, especially if you have travel plans.
