ST. LOUIS — It's been a gloomy period recently, and that trend looks to continue overnight Wednesday into early Thursday. It's our best chance for more of a widespread rain than we've seen recently.
We're dry through most of Wednesday, but rain is expected to move into the area overnight. This will start out as a light rain, and areas southeast will have the earliest opportunity at seeing some light rain.
Thursday morning's commute looks to be the wettest part of the day. Expect a steady rain and wet roadways throughout the entire morning. This is most likely where we receive a good majority of our rain between the hours of 6 a.m. to noon.
Drier air looks to settle in during the afternoon hours. While much sunshine appearing is unlikely, it should be enough to keep most of us dry. There may be a few pockets of light drizzle or rain, but the longer the day goes on, the lower the chances of rain will be.
Expected rain totals will generally be between 1/2 an inch to 3/4 of an inch. There will be a few heavier pockets of rain south that aren't as impacted by the dry air. These areas could see over 1 inch by the end of Thursday.
This should start to help some of the areas which still remain in Category 2 or 3 drought. A majority of our area is recently drought-free, but we can always use a steady, gentle rain.
A reminder: our best chances for rain are before noon. They will gradually taper off in the afternoon, but you should plan for an early slowdown due to pockets of heavier rain.
