Winter storm watch issued for St. Louis area

Snow and ice on track to impact the bi-state Sunday and Monday

Ahead of winter weather arriving Sunday and Monday, the National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for the counties highlighted in deep blue on the map below.

Winter watches and advisories for Missouri and Illinois

A winter weather advisory has also been issued for the areas highlighted in purple. Mostly wintry mix is expected in these areas, with icing being a main concern.

Snow will arrive Sunday by lunchtime, but it will not be all snow. There will be bands of freezing rain and sleet. With the addition of freezing rain and sleet, icing will be a serious concern.

At some points between Sunday and Monday, snowflakes will fall throughout the bi-state. There will be bands of freezing rain and sleet that will track through in the evening.

The freezing rain line will need to be closely monitored, as this is where the icing concerns will be greatest. It does not take much for temperatures to rise enough to see snow turn to icy mix.
