Scotty McCreery: He was the youngest person to win Idol when he was only 17 years old and followed up his season 10 victory with three studio albums. After getting dropped by his record label, he successfully released the single 'Five More Minutes' in 2017.
Adam Lambert: The rocker came so close as the runner up in season 8 but has still done pretty well for himself. He's sold more than 3 million albums and hit the charts with songs like "Whataya Want from Me" and "Ghost Town" and had several successful tours as the lead vocalist with the band Queen.
Carrie Underwood: She's sold more than 16 million albums after winning American Idol, making her the most successful contestant on the show. The singer, who has been married to NHL player Mike Fisher since 2010, has won seven Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist in 2007.
Katharine McPhee: Being the runner up isn't so bad. After losing in season 5 to Taylor Hicks, she's released five albums, starred in two major television shows ('Smash' and 'Scorpion') and will be making her Broadway debut later this year.
Jennifer Hudson: A shocking season 3 elimination didn't stop Jennifer from career success, highlighted by an Oscar win for her performance in the 2006 film Dreamgirls. She's also recorded several albums and was a judge on 'The Voice.'
Jordin Sparks: After her season-six win, Jordin's self-titled debut album sold two million copies and spawned the hit single 'Tattoo.' She's also had a role on Broadway and several small parts on television shows.
Clay Aiken: Clay, who has released seven studio albums, is familiar with the runner-up spot on reality TV. In addition to the second season of American Idol, he lost to Arsenio Hall in the fifth season of The Celebrity Apprentice. Clay is also politically active and ran as a Democrat for North Carolina's 2nd congressional district in 2014.
Chris Daughtry: After his elimination in season 4, Chris found success with his band Daughtry. The band's 2006 debut, which has sold more than 5 million copies, included hits "It's Not Over" and "Home."
Season 3 winner Fantasia Barrino has had a eclectic career after 'American Idol.' She released six studio albums and was seen in the Broadway productions of 'The Color Purple' and 'After Midnight.' In 2006, she played herself in the movie 'The Fantasia Barrino Story: Life is Not a Fairy Tale,' based on her autobiography.
After his 11th season win, Phillip Phillips found success with the singles 'Home' and 'Gone, Gone, Gone.' He released his third studio album in January.
