Blues fans set a record for MetroLink numbers

"Thank you, fans, for bringing your patience and great attitudes as you shared full MetroLink trains with hundreds of other excited Blues hockey fans.”

ST. LOUIS — Metro Transit announced they had more than 100,000 use the MetroLink on the day of the Blues parade, Saturday, June 15.

To put that in perspective, that is almost four times the amount of any other Saturday in June, when Metro Transit typically receives about 25,000 passengers.

The previous single highest volume of riders reported, was for Game 7 of the 2011 World Series when the Cardinals beat the Texas Rangers. There were more than 86,000 passengers on that day. The Blues parade easily topped that record.

In preparation of the large crowds that Metro Transit expected for the Blues parade, they scheduled extra security, dozens of additional transit employees, customer service representatives, and volunteers to assist riders and make their trip much easier.

Extra trains were also put into action earlier than originally scheduled Saturday morning to transport the large crowds that were gathering in both Illinois and Missouri.

“I am so proud of our transit team and of our customers, many of which who were first-time riders. We are a great option, not just for special events, but every day.” said Jessica Mefford-Miller, the Executive Director of Metro Transit.
