Knife-wielding thief robs woman in Swansea Schnucks parking lot

The suspect fled after she gave him an unknown amount of money and her keys.

SWANSEA, Ill. -- Police are asking for the public's help in finding a man wanted for pulling a knife on a woman in the parking lot of a Schnucks grocery store in Swansea.

The female victim told police the suspect held a knife to her side and demanded her money. The suspect fled after she gave him an unknown amount of money and her keys.

The suspect did not take her vehicle but instead was last seen running southbound from Schnucks.

Swansea Police Chief Steve Johnson said, "This is a very unusual incident at this location. Please always be aware of your surroundings and if you see something suspicious call us immediately. Please look hard at this picture and if you recognize this person call us or CrimeStoppers."

A spokesperson for Schnucks told 5 On Your Side that they’re cooperating with police and have turned over all security footage.

Many shoppers said the incident has left them uneasy.

“These criminals are just getting more brazen. They could just be sitting in their cars just watching,” said Linda Goldsmith.

If anyone recognizes this person or has any information regarding this case, please contact the Swansea Police Department at 618-233-8114.
