A man is in custody and facing charges a day after police say he shot two men, hurting a homeowner and killing his neighbor, a press release from the Major Case Squad said Thursday.
According to the release, at around 9 a.m. Thursday, Jesse Murray, a 27-year-old Labadie, Mo., man, was taken into custody by the Franklin County Sheriff's Department in connection a shooting the day before. Just after 4:30 Thursday afternoon, he was charged with four counts including second-degree murder and first-degree assault.
The shooting happened at about 3:40 at a home on the 9900 block of Jones Creek Road.
The Jefferson County Department said a 49-year-old homeowner and his 56-year-old neighbor, Kenneth Mann, told them a man knocked on the door, demanding they return his car. The victims said they did not know the man or the car he was looking for — a 1999 Saturn.
A physical confrontation ensued, and shortly after, the man pulled out a pistol and shot the men.
Mann was shot in the chest and later died from his injuries. The 49-year-old homeowner was shot in the leg. He is expected to be OK.
Murray is being held on a $500,000, cash-only bond.
The Major Case Squad was activated Wednesday night, and assisted with the investigation.
