MADISON, Ill. – Thieves tried to steal new trucks from the Wentzville GM plant that were parked at Gateway Motorsports Park Tuesday afternoon.

Chris Blair, the GM of Gateway Motorsports Park, said four men must have jumped one of the fences, jumped into four different trucks and tried to speed off at around 3 p.m.

Security stopped three of the trucks, but one of the trucks was able to get off the lot, nearly hitting security guards in the process.

The people stopped by security abandoned their cars and ran toward a red, two-door sedan that was waiting for them near Interstate 55/70. From there, they headed toward North St. Louis City. St. Louis Police are still on the hunt for the stolen car and that getaway car.

The car that made it off the lot has not been located, and police are still on the hunt. None of the suspects have been taken into custody.

Blair said Gateway stores about 2,000 GMC trucks from the Wentzville production plant.

Blair said he believed the crime was planned because of the number of people involved.
